How could two months feel like a day? I arrived in Dublin a little over two months ago and time seems to be flying faster than I could have ever imagined! November seemed like a whirlwind of events falling into a marathon leading up to Thanksgiving. Although busy, my days have been filled with gratitude and remembering those who have gone before us in the month of All Souls Day.
On Friday, November 10th Newman University Church held our yearly Remembrance service. Parishioners gathered to reflect, pray and remember our friends, family members and loved ones who have gone before us.
The service aims to move through stages of grief with scripture readings, spoken reflections and music performed by the Newman University Church Vocare Ensemble. As the service concludes, the tone of the readings and musical selections shift, and the congregation is left with a sense of hope and a reminder of our faith in everlasting life. A solemn service that brings emotions to light through music, readings and reflection, did not leave me with a sense of sadness, but rather a sense of peace and trust in the plan God has in store for me.
When I think of the opportunities, people and thin spaces I stumbled upon and experienced over the last month, I am left with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. The time I spent making music, visiting with parishioners during parish tea and biscuits, singing and sharing in Taizé, and even the quiet walks around Saint Stephen’s Green are intentionally sent to guide me along the path God set before me.
In the Lord I’ll Be Ever Thankful- for this opportunity, for this moment, and for this ministry.
