On Friday evening we went to the first Folk Group Rehearsal of the year. They are a great bunch of talented musicians with a very solid foundation in their repertoire. The Folk Group really takes advantage of their beautiful Irish culture by utilizing many traditional instruments and folk tunes which I particularly enjoy. The newbies (Jessica, Patrick and I) got to take a shot at learning a new song in Irish this past weekend which was pretty entertaining. As you must all have some knowledge by now, Irish is rarely pronounced the way it looks. Case in point, the name of our community: Teach = “Chalk.” But it is indeed a beautiful language and I’m really excited to have more opportunities to learn the pronunciation and sing it!
In addition to singing with the Folk Group at their Sunday liturgy, we also led the music for the first time at the Saturday Vigil Mass. It was just us this week but on Wednesday we will hold our first Vigil Choir rehearsal and will hopefully be directing a large and vibrant choir for this Mass very soon!
This weekend at our favorite public establishment we got our first taste of live Irish trad. music with an awesome performance by The Wild Turkeys who are AMAZING! We were all pretty much in awe of their incredible musicianship and were instantly that much more excited about living in Ireland.
With our first full week completely present in the office, we have a lot going on. This week we’ll be providing music for the Kennedy Park Opening School Year Mass and attending several meetings to plan the Confirmation leader training session as well as several liturgy planning meetings for different groups here at the parish. And of course we’ll hold our very first Vigil choir rehearsal with the new House of Brigid Community. Basically, we’re busy and we love it!
